Our June Worship

(All services at 10:00 AM unless otherwise noted)

Sunday, June 6                 THE 10th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME                        Eucharist

The Epistle from Galatians appointed for this day describes how it was that St. Paul's came to faith. The Gospel appointed shares a bit about what it is that faith can do in the life of an individual. In reading these two lessons, it appears that there is no limit to what faith can accomplish.

Sunday, June 13               THE 11th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME                          Baptism

What will it take to be saved at the end of our lives?  Will it be the memory of all of our accomplishments? All of the things we have been able to collect in life?  The number of friends we have? The good deeds we have done for the benefit of others? Jesus silences those who look with disdain upon someone in this day's Gospel, saying that it is her faith that has saved her. So it is with us as well. In the final analysis, it is by our faith that we are saved.

Sunday, June 20                THE 12th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME                                              Bob Dylan penned a song forty years ago entitled, I Shall be Released and it might well serve as the meaning of our Gospel lesson for this day.  In today's Gospel, Jesus encounters an individual who has been possessed by a band of demons for most of his life. Yet in the presence of Christ, the demons leave the man and, in essence, he is released.  From what elements of life do we seek to be released? Christ summons us to have faith and we too can be released.

Sunday, June 27                THE 13th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME                       Eucharist                         (Please note that because of vacation schedules, Communion, for the month of July is being celebrated on this day, the last Sunday of the June.) In our appointed Gospel today Jesus offers some less than encouraging words to those who would seek to follow him. His words challenge us to consider what it takes to be a disciple, not only in Jesus' day but also in our own. Are we truly willing to leave behind the life we've lived and follow him wherever he leads?
